How can I get a library card?
Your Cape Fear Community College Identification card will serve as your library card. ID cards are issued in the Library, 2nd floor of the Allied Health building, near the Circulation Desk. ID Schedule will be posted in the library. You will need to bring a current class schedule and a photo ID. You’ll use this card to check out books. For non-CFCC library patrons, go to the Community Patron webpage for further information.
How do I access the library online catalog?
Go to the library home page and select the link to the Library Catalog to search for books and audiovisual items in our collection. No password is required to search our catalog, and it may be searched from anywhere that you have access to the Internet.
How do I find newspapers and periodicals?
The library subscribes to many magazines, journals, and newspapers. Current issues of journals and magazines can be found in the Periodicals section, located at the back of the downtown library. Newspapers are located behind the Reference desk underneath the windows. Newspapers and periodicals are for library use only and cannot be checked out. You can access the Periodicals webpage to get further details on the titles to which the library subscribes. If you are looking for a specific title, please ask at the Reference desk to find out if we have it. Also keep in mind that many newspaper and journal articles are available through our online databases. Please ask us for help if you need research assistance.

How do I place a book on hold?
If an in-house book or circulating audiovisual item is checked out, then you may come to the circulation desk to "place a hold" on that item. You will be put on a list and called when that title is turned in to the library circulation desk and your name is next on the list. A CFCC ID card must be presented to check out materials from the library.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How do I renew a book?
Items may be renewed one time, as long as they are not overdue and have not been placed on HOLD for another library patron. They must be renewed in person with your CFCC Library Card.

How do I request an Interlibrary Loan?
If the library does not own the book you need, you may request it through interlibrary loan (ILL). If the book is owned by one of the other libraries in our consortium, holdings will be displayed in our online catalog and may be requested at the library's Circulation Desk. Allow at least 7-10 days for receipt of the book. If the desired item does not display in our online catalog, you will need to fill out a Book ILL Request Form. Journal articles may also be obtained by filling out a Journal ILL Request Form. If the item can be borrowed from another library outside of our consortium, it takes a minimum of 7-14 days to receive the requested item. Videos and other audiovisual materials are not available from other libraries through interlibrary loan. ILL request forms are also available at the Reference and Circulation desks.

How do I cite sources using...?

For more information on how to cite sources using APA & MLA formats see the Citation Guides webpage.
How do I send a fax?

To send a fax, please come to the Circulation Desk located on the second floor of the Library located in the Learning Resource Center/Allied Health Building. There is no charge for sending a local fax. There is a $1.00 charge for a long distance fax.
How do I access the Library's Wi-Fi internet?

The Cape Fear Community College’s wireless network, SurfCFCC, is available for use by all CFCC staff, faculty, and currently enrolled students.  The network has access points in strategic locations at both the Downtown and North Campuses.  SurfCFCC provides reliable internet connectivity at data connection speeds up to 54mbps*.  SurfCFCC utilizes the IEEE 802.11b/g wireless LAN standard.
