This is your last chance to see the exhibit of “The Things They Carried” now on display in the CFCC Wilmington Campus Library. “The Things They Carried” exhibit showcases veteran student and employee items that they carried while deployed overseas. The items on display represent many different wars and battlefields, including World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. The exhibit has been prepared in conjunction with The Big Read Greater Wilmington, a community-wide effort to promote reading for pleasure and enlightenment. This year’s Big Read is Tim O’Brien’s The Things They Carried, a semi-autobiographical collection of fictionalized short stories centered on O’Brien’s platoon’s experiences in Vietnam.
On Tuesday, January 14 from 6:00-8:00 p.m., there will be a reception at the Northeast Branch of the New Hanover County Public Library to welcome author Tim O’Brien.
On Wednesday, January 15 from 7:00-9:00 p.m., there will be a keynote address and book signing with O’Brien at Kenan Auditorium, UNCW.
All events are FREE and open to the public.
The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
