Fall 2018 CCP/CTE Nurse Aide Certificate Program Course Description

To Apply for the CCP/CTE Nurse Aide Program Pathway Contact  Your  High School Counselor.

Students who apply for the CCP/CTE Nurse Aide Program must attend one of the following Mandatory Information Sessions:

  • Tuesday, January 16, 2018 2:30-3:30 Room L-315 (CANCELLED)
  • Tuesday, February 6, 2018 3:30-4:30 Room L-315
  • Tuesday, March 13, 2018 4:30-5:30 Room L-315
  • Tuesday, April 10, 2018 3:00-4:00 Room L-315

Prerequisites:

  • Students must be a 17 yr old High School Junior or Senior.
  • Have a weighted GPA of 3.0 on high school courses or have the recommendation of the high school principal or his/her designee(PLAN scores should be considered).
  • Have received  career pathway information outlining program requirements for completion of the certificate or diploma.
  • Applied for the CCP/CTE Nurse Aide Program Pathway through their high school counselor.

Nurse Aide Program Requirements:

  • Valid photo ID and Social Security Card
  • Have a clean background check and drug screen.
  • Physical with Vaccination History

The Curriculum Nurse Aide Certificate Program will include the following Nurse Aide courses:

Course Descriptions

Nurse Aide I (NAI)

The CFCC NA I training course is approved by the North Carolina (NC) State Department of Health Care Services Regulation (DPHSR). It is taught by Registered Nurses approved to teach the NC DPHSR NA I training course curriculum.  Students who successfully complete this NA I training course are eligible to sit for the NC State Nurse Aide I Registry exam. *CFCC is an in-facility NC State Testing Site.

NA I Tasks Include:

  • Dressing
  • Hygiene
  • Grooming
  • Toileting
  • Skin care
  • Assistance with movement: Walking, transferring from a bed to a chair, or positioning in bed
  • Taking vital signs (blood pressure, pulse respirations, and temperature)
  • Nutrition, feeding assistance
  • Observation and safety
  • Emergency Preparedness
  • CPR
  • Communicating patient needs or changes to the nurse or health team

Nurse Aide II (NAII)

The Nurse Aide II course provides theoretical and practical knowledge and training required for graduates to be a competent practitioner as a Nurse Aide II. It is taught by Registered Nurses approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON) to teach Nurse Aide II, in classroom, laboratory and clinical settings and is consistent with the standards of practice of the NCBON and provides the knowledge and skills required to deliver safe competent patient care.

Upon successful completion of this program, you will receive a certificate of completion and be eligible to be listed as a Nurse Aide II with the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

  • Communicating patient needs or changes to the nurse or health team.

NA II Course Eligibility:

  • Meet CTE program continuation requirements.
  • NA II students must be 18 yrs. old.
  • Valid photo ID and Social Security Card
  • Submit a copy of the CFCC NA I Course Completion Certificate and current listing on the NC Nurse Aide I Registry
  • Vaccination History and physical
  • Have a clean background check and drug screen.

NA II Tasks Include:

  • Elimination procedures/Fecal Impaction / Ostomy care
  • Sterile Technique
  • Wound Care
  • Peripheral IV Fluids
  • Suctioning
  • Trach  Care
  • Urinary Catheter Care
  • Tube Feeding
  • Oxygen Therapy Observation and safety
  • Finger Stick Capillary Glucose Testing
  • Emergency Preparedness
  • CPR


Nurse Aide students at Cape Fear Community College

CCP/CTE Nurse Aide Program offers:

Tuition free course credits toward an entry level job credential, certificate or diploma for eligible high school students. However students are responsible for payment of the following fees:

Fall Semester:

  • Student Activity Fee – $35.00
  • Parking and Security Fee – $40.00
  • Technology Fee – $18.00
  • Nurses/ Health Sciences Students Liability Insurance Fee – $15.00
  • Total = $108.00

Additional Nurse Aide Level I Course Requirements and Fees:

  • Background Check /12-Panel Drug Screen – $80(Order information will be given out at Orientation).
  • Physical – Approximately $100.00 (Cost will vary by Medical Provider).
  • TB Test (Two-step) – $30 Health Department (Cost varies per private MD).
  • Proof of Vaccination History including: (Cost will vary by Medical Provider).
  • 2 Measles/Mumps/Rubella vaccinations or positive antibody titer.
  • History of Chicken Pox or 2 Varicella immunizations.
  • Tetanus vaccination within the last 10 years.
  • Flu vaccine (Seasonal).
  • Have had either the Hepatitis B vaccination series, be in process or have signed a waiver form.
  • CPR Certification – $4.00 if taken as part of the course Outside of NA course price varies by Instructor/Vendor.
  • Ceil Blue Scrubs  –  Approximately $20- $80 (Price will vary by vendor)
  • White Sneakers or Nursing Shoes – Approximately $20- $80 (Price will vary by vendor).
  • Textbook and Workbook – $57.00 (CFCC Book Store – Prices are for new books only and are subject to change).

  • The CFCC Nurse Aide I Program now offers In-facility testing for the North Carolina State Nurse Aide I Written Examination and Skill Evaluation.  The NC State NA I Testing Fee – $101.00 *The NC State Test is administered by Pearson Vue at CFCC.
