About the Show

This year marks the eighth annual Cape Fear Community College Wooden Boat Show on July 28, 2007. Presented by the CFCC Boat Building program, the festival serves as an annual celebration of the tradition and craft of wooden boat building. Held on the banks of the Cape Fear River in downtown Wilmington, CFCC’s wooden boat festival attracts hundreds of visitors every year.

This year, the event will feature over 50 wooden boats, including kayaks, skiffs, and boats from the Simmons Sea Skiff Club. Students in CFCC’s Boat Building program will exhibit their own work and conduct demonstrations of traditional boat building techniques like bending wood using steam.

Awards will be presented to the participating boats and will be judged in the following categories: Best Sail, Best Outboard, Best Inboard, Best Paddle or Rowboat, Best over 25’ Power or Sail, and Best in Show.
