Advising and Registration
Cape Fear Community College views student advisement as an important, on-going process. Every student is assigned a faculty advisor who assists the student in selecting and scheduling appropriate classes to fulfill his/her educational requirements. Non-degree students are assigned a counselor as their advisor who assists in selecting and scheduling appropriate classes.
Students are encouraged to meet with their assigned advisors each semester for assistance in scheduling classes and completing the registration form. Students on probation may be required to meet with their advisor. Advisors' office hours are posted on their office doors.
Students must accept the responsibility of familiarizing themselves with specific course, prerequisite, co requisite, and program requirements.
While advising is an ongoing process, specific times are designated prior to each registration period. Refer to the Academic Calendar.
Your Responsibilities as Advisees
Become familiar with:
- the CFCC Catalog and Student Handbook
- the degree, diploma, or certificate requirements of your chosen program
- the transfer requirements of the institution to which transfer is desired
- the advisement period scheduled for each semester
Plan Ahead:
- Schedule an appointment with your advisor during the advising period (refer to the Academic Calendar) and be on time for the appointment. Online advising is available for college transfer students.
- Have a tentative schedule of classes each semester before meeting with your advisor. Be prepared with alternate class options.
- Keep records of all CFCC transactions (transfer credit slips, test scores, drop/add/withdrawal forms, etc.)
- Pre-register for each semester by using WEB Advisor during the pre-registration period.
