Mission Statement

The SOTA (Student Occupational Therapy Association) club is a student driven club that enriches the occupational therapy assistant program by focusing on three areas: service to promote the value of occupational therapy and support the community, fundraising to provide the means to enhance the educational experience, and socializing to encourage fellowship outside the classroom.

Club Information

Members of the SOTA club have coordinated, sponsored, and participated in a variety of activities to fulfill our mission.  Since December of 2012 SOTA club has contributed 180 hours of service, raised funds for several charities, and engaged in many social gatherings.  The activities to date are:

  • Veterans Holiday Card Marking: Created forty cards reaching veterans in seven states
  • Pot Luck: Socialization over good food and good conversation
  • New Hanover House balloon volleyball: Activity encouraging an active social experience for senior of the memory care unit
  • Homecoming Banner Competition: Promoting school spirit and the occupational therapy assistant program
  • Penny War: Fundraising and friendly competition with in the class
  • Communication with the Green Initiative Club: Provided information on how occupational therapy can incorporate ergonomics in green building
  • Valentine’s Day Sale: Fundraiser full of hearts, chocolate, and flowers.
  • Polar Plunge: Raising funds and awareness to benefit New Hanover County Special Olympics
  • T-Shirt Design Contest: Bringing awareness to the occupational therapy assistant program
  • Canines for Service: Raising funds that help provide service and therapy dogs for the community
  • Breakfast Social: Celebrating occupational therapy awareness month in April
  • 2014 Backpack Awareness Day
