Job Description:
Under general supervision, assists in the construction and
maintenance of systems, tanks and equipment used in hatchery
operations. Assists in the daily operation of the fish
or coral hatchery facilities including tank and filter
maintenance; food preparation; fish handling and culling
in two or more areas. Assists in the construction and maintenance
of systems, tanks and equipment used in hatchery operations.
Maintains facility sanitation, including filter upkeep,
tank cleaning, siphoning and water systems management.
Assists in feeding, culling and grading of fish. Assists
in the harvesting of fish to move to grow-out or pack-out
areas. Assists in the husbandry and daily care of live feeds
(microalgae and rotifers).
Assists in maintaining accurate record keeping (inventory,
feeding, disease, etc). Assists in maintaining accurate inventory
numbers. Maintains recirculating systems and complete all
daily and weekly husbandry tasks. Monitors and records data
on water quality, coral production and broodstock care. Prepares
and packs all invertebrates for shipping. Aids in maintaining
a clean and safe workplace in compliance with Harbor Branch/ORA
safety program. Performs other duties as assigned.
Job involves frequent walking on unleveled surfaces, bending,
stooping, ducking, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50
lbs. Very infrequent sitting. Work is performed in an external
environment 99% of the time. This may include unairconditioned
greenhouse type structures. The worker is in adverse environmental
conditions up to 99% of the time including heat, rain, and
cold, in water or in tanks . Worker may be required to wear
PPE as part of job duties.
Minimum Requirements:
1. High School diploma or equivalent and two years applicable
experience. Applicable college or vocational education
may substitute at an equivalent rate for required experience.
2. PVC plumbing skills and a basic understanding of recirculating
technology preferred.
3. Experience or education related to working in marine environment
with pumps, plumbing, tanks, and water systems preferred.
4. Experience in fish aquaculture and "hands on" hatchery
techniques a plus.
5. Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends.
6. Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels
of management and staff.
7. May be required to have a valid Florida Drivers license
with acceptable driving record.
