Job Location: Chesapeake VA

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday with some weekends as necessary

Travel Required: Yes, up to 50%

Salary: Commensurate with experience, plus travel expenses

REMSA Inc. is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, and results oriented Electronics Technician with a background in the area of marine instrumentation to fill an immediate opening.  Primary responsibility will be to test and calibrate instrumentation to ensure proper functioning before it is placed in the field.  

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The incumbent will be part of a team of personnel that works to install, maintain, and monitor a platform of highly precise instrumentation that measures a variety of oceanographic parameters throughout the United States. The main focus of this position is to ensure all equipment is operational during the pre-installation phase.  The majority of the work will be performed onsite, however, some travel may be required as necessary throughout the Eastern U.S. & Gulf of Mexico.     
Additional duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assisting with testing, configuration, set-up, installation and maintenance of field equipment
  • Assisting with construction and repairs of structural elements associated with instrumentation
  • Analyze and interpret technical data collected in order to detect problems and take corrective actions
  • Maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment used in the field
  • Complete reports and prepare documentation associated with work accomplished
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle in order to complete assigned tasks
  • Communicate within team & with other divisions utilizing date from instrumentation

REQUIREMENTS:
Must have a valid Driver’s License & Clean Driving Record

Education: B.S. Degree*** in Ocean/Marine Technology or Electronic Engineering, or related field (preferred)
***NOTE: Experience and/or a Combination of Experience and Education may substitute for degree

Skills: A background in Oceanography/Marine Science

  • Knowledge of field engineering practices
  • Ability to use multimeters and/or test and calibration equipment for electronic testing and troubleshooting
  • Ability to read technical drawings, plans, diagrams & specifications
  • Experience in surveying methods & techniques
  • Construction experience including use of hand and power tools
  • Ability to use software applications including word processor, spreadsheet, and data entry programs
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to travel throughout the Eastern U.S. & Gulf Coast as necessary
  • Maritime experience is a plus. Candidates with previous military, civil service, or government contractor experience are encouraged to apply.
