This course provides a general description of the
oceans, including their origin, chemical and physical characteristics,
and circulation. Topics include a history of oceanography, bathymetry,
seismic profiling and plate tectonics, sea water chemistry, ocean
physics, atmospheric circulation and weather, oceanic circulation,
and tides. Upon completion, students should be able to describe
oceanic basin features, the physics and chemistry of sea water,
and their effect on oceanic circulation.
