Horizon Marine Inc. (www.horizonmarine.com) is a leader
in commercial, applied oceanography and has provided the
ocean industry with real-time ocean current monitoring and
forecasting services and products for over twenty years.
We are continually growing and expanding our oceanographic
capabilities and offerings.
This is a full-time, entry-level position particularly suited
to those persons with an interest in acquiring field experience
in the marine sciences. And, while this position involves
extended offshore stays of up to six weeks at a time, and
up to 120 days per year at sea; we offer employees an exciting

Core duties will include the shipboard operation and shore-side
maintenance of our FAST Eddy Ocean Current Survey Systems.
The Oceanographic Technician will be expected to work closely
with our clients’ representatives’, the Captain
and crew of the vessels employed, and with our own Eddy Watch
Forecasters to provide timely and accurate oceanographic
data and support for our clients.
Only candidates who are perpetually enthusiastic, physically
fit, possess a can-do attitude, have good interpersonal skills,
handle stress well, accept supervision willingly, and are
able to function in a team environment to meet our goals
need apply. Candidates must also be able to properly use
power and hand tools, recognize electrical hazards, physically
handle moderately heavy equipment, work overhead and in confined
spaces, function adequately under occasionally adverse sea
conditions, and always consider safety to be their #1 priority.
There is no educational pre-requisite for this position.
However, only persons with a sincere desire to increase their
knowledge of general and applied oceanography need apply.
Prior sea-going experience and basic seamanship skills will
be a definite advantage. Mechanical aptitude, electronic/electrical
acumen, and general computing/networking/ programming skills
are desirable assets which will be taken into consideration
in lieu of shipboard experience.
Candidates must possess a valid Texas driver’s license
and have a clean driving record, be able to procure a U.S.
government issued passport, be physically fit, successfully
complete a background investigation, submit to periodic/random
drug screening, and be willing to fly in both helicopters
and fixed-wing aircraft.
