SGA General Assembly Meeting


April 22, 2013

Call to Order:

Jamir called the meeting to order at 3:37pm.


Chris Libert (Advisor), Kenneth Hufham(Advisor as of July 1, 2013), Jamir Jumoke(President), Gary Jones(Vice-President), Courtney Hull(Secretary), Rebecca Stutts(Treasurer), Allisha LaGrange(SGA Treasurer-Elect), Destinee Masi(SGA Secretary-Elect), Waleed Jarrad(Multicultural Club), Michael Marooney, Julian Sloop(SGA President-elect), Juan Guevara(Math Club), Katherine Estep, Yoel Del Rio(SGA Vice-President-Elect), Ty Whitley(Cape Fear Student Sociological Society), Elias Patino(Anthropology Club), Megan Carpenter(SGA PIO), Claude Jarman(Criminal Justice Club), and Katie French(SOTA).

President’s Report:

Jamir congratulated Raven Bruno, Sociology Instructor at CFCC on the birth of her first child. The visit with D.C. Virgo students was cancelled at the last minute due to End of Grade testing and other obligations of the students. We hope that the students will be able to visit in the fall and the new Executive Board will continue to develop the partnership with CFCC SGA and the D.C. Virgo Student Council. Mentoring opportunities are available with the D.C. Virgo students beginning Friday, April 26, 2013. Anyone interested is asked to contact Jamir Jumoke for more information. Other announcements by Jamir will be addressed in the old business.



Vice-President’s Report:

Gary congratulated the new officers. He expressed his thanks for those that voted. He hopes to continue to be involved with SGA in the coming year as a Public Information Officer.

Secretary’s Report:

Courtney was pleased to announce that a CFCC Green Committee has been established to further our efforts to become a more environmentally sound campus. More information will be forthcoming regarding the members of the committee and how others can become involved.

Treasurer’s Report:

Rebecca was pleased to report that all Hand Sanitizers are functioning on campus. PLEASE USE THEM!!!! Also, she has worked tirelessly with Dr. Spring to bring an ATM Machine to the North Campus. The ATM should be installed and ready to use by the start of the fall semester.

2013 True Blue Campaign:

Dana McKoy and Juan Guevara spoke about students giving back to students! Their goal is to have 100 students donate $20.13 to the fund to provide scholarships to students. Donors will be given a blue ribbon to proudly wear at commencement and Dr. Spring will recognize the donors as well during the commencement ceremony.

Amended Agenda:

The agenda was amended as two individuals were scheduled to present and were unable to attend.

Old Business:

Talent Show: Our first ever CFCC’s Got Talent was a success. The SGA was pleased; however, we felt that it needed more promotion. The winners are as follows:

1st Place: TRIO $150.00

2nd Place: Signals $50.00

Book Drive: The book drive ended April 22, 2013. The books collected will be turned over to Cape Fear Literacy Council and then to the Rotary Club. The Rotary Club will hold a ceremony on May 18th where CFCC and other organizations that helped will be recognized for their efforts. The books will then be donated to Sunset Park Elementary School! Thanks to all that donated!!!

Works on Wilmington: The SGA participated in Works on Wilmington Saturday, April 20, 2013. Participants helped with landscaping at the Coastal Horizons Center. It was a great time for everyone. Again, thank you to all that participated!

Club/Organization Announcements:

All Clubs: The September issue of Toilet Times will be dedicated to our campus organizations.

Math Club: Meeting Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at 5pm to elect new officers for the upcoming year.

Math Club/3MP: Will be hosting a P.U.S.H. seminar with the UNCW Dean of Curriculum and Instruction on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 4pm in l-107. The purpose of the event is to help students develop uplifting study habits.

SOTA: Thursday, April 25, 2013 Fundraiser at Chick-Fil-A Monkey Junction 5-8pm. Autism walk Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 8am at Mayfaire.

Criminal Justice Club: Mud Run for Step Up For Soldiers Saturday, April 27, 2013.
