Airlie Gardens

Airlie Gardens is a “historic public garden with cultural and environmental education for the residents and visitors of New Hanover County.”

The Arboretum of New Hanover County

The NHC Arboretum is “seven acres in the heart of New Hanover County where homeowners can see the variety of plants that grow in our coastal area as well as emerging trends in plant material. Cooperative Extension’s ‘horticultural laboratory,’ the Arboretum has a very knowledgeable staff and many volunteers working to make the gardens beautiful and educational.”

The Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity ReStore

“The ReStore is more than a thrift store. It is a second chance. The ReStore allows Cape Fear Habitat to provide household items at below market cost while protecting the environment by recycling items in good condition that might otherwise end up in the landfill.”

Coastal Enterprises of Wilmington

Coastal Enterprises provides ” rehabilitation and job training in the production of business contracts and performance of service contracts.” Recycling is an important service provided by Coastal Enterprises.

Feast Down East

A Southeastern North Carolina Food Systems Council project designed “to create a county-based and a regional food system that

  • supports local farmers;
  • educates and encourages consumers and the public on the importance of buying local;

  • provides fresher, healthier, and safer farm products for local and regional consumption, increasing the bio-diversity of farm production and consumer health and safety.”
