Placement Test Advising

READING AND WRITING PLACEMENT GUIDE
Testing not required with SAT Reading OR Writing 500, ACT Reading 22 OR English 18, or ENG 111 or equivalent with “C” or better.

Your English Placement is determined by Adding Reading and Sentence Skills Together.

Register for your English class based on the guide below:

40-71 = Basic Skills (You must take the Reading and Sentence Skills tests twice). If you have not scored above a 71 after your 2nd attempt, call 910.362.7141 for English Foundations information.

72-91 = ENG-075 (Summer) or DRE-096 (Fall)

92-128 = ENG-085 (Summer) or DRE-097 (Fall)

129-165 = ENG-095 (Summer) or DRE-098 (Fall)

166-240 = ENG-111 (No developmental class needed)

 

MATHEMATICS PLACEMENT GUIDE
Testing not required with SAT Math 500, ACT Math 22 or credit for the appropriate college math required for your major

Seven (7) or above is the score that demonstrates proficiency on each DMA test:

(A score of 1 on the DMA 010 test ONLY = Basic Skills.  You must take the Math Test twice).  If you have not scored above a 1 after your 2nd attempt, call 910.362.7141 for Math Foundations information.

If you don’t score a 7 or higher on your DMA tests, then you need to Register for a DMS course.

If you want to take one of the following Math courses, here are the requirements:

MAT-101 & MAT-110 = A score of 7 on DMA-010 through DMA-030 Needed

MAT-120 & MAT-140 & MAT-141 = A score of 7 on DMA-010 through DMA-040 Needed

MAT-115 & MAT-121 (Summer) & MAT-143 & MAT-152 & MAT-155 = 7 on DMA-010 through DMA-050 Needed

MAT-121 (Fall) = A score of 7 on DMA-010 through DMA-060 Needed

MAT-171 = A score of 7 on DMA-010 through DMA-080 Needed (A score of 7 or higher on DMA-060 will also award credits for DMA-070 and DMA-080)

 

All placement scores are valid for 5 years.
