Interpretation of Your Scores
ENGLISH: First, look at your writing and reading placement scores. Placement into the ENG courses is based on the lower of the two scores: reading or writing. To interpret your scores, refer to Table 1 below. The examples below the table should enhance your understanding of placement scores.

First Example: If you took the ASSET Placement test and scored a 29 on the writing and a 38 on the reading, you will be placed into ENG 075.
Second Example: If you took the ASSET Placement test and scored a 41 on the writing and a 38 on the reading, you must take ENG 085. * Placement into course is based on the lower of the two grades.
Third Example: You took the ASSET Placement test and scored a 41 on the reading and a 40 on the writing tests. What course should you select? "But I missed it by one point" is not the correct answer! The scores are scaled, and one point may represent an entire section. You will be placed into ENG 095!
Fourth Example: If you took the ACCUPLACER (CPT) Placement test and scored a 36 on the writing and a 38 on the reading, you will be placed into ENG 075.
Fifth Example: If you took the ACCUPLACER (CPT) Placement test and scored a 64 on the writing and a 56 on the reading, you must take ENG 085. * Placement into course is based on the lower of the two grades.
Reading and Writing and What Else?
If you scored below a 41 in reading and below a 41 in writing on the ASSET Placement test, or below an 86 in writing and below an 80 in reading on the ACCUPLACER (CPT) test you are limited to taking the following classes:

Reminder: MAT 070 and 080 require math prerequisites and reading corequisites. Other math classes require math prerequisites only and no reading prerequisites. Students may enroll in some math classes while they take the classes listed above.
*** Not all classes are available in all semesters. Other courses may be available but have prerequisites. Please refer to your CFCC Student Handbook for complete information.
If you took the ASSET Placement test and scored a 41 on the reading but a 40 or less on the writing testOR
If you took the ACCUPLACER (CPT) Placement test and scored an 80 on the reading but an 85 or less on the writing test,
you will be allowed to take Social and Behavioral Science courses: anthropology, economics, history, political science, psychology, and sociology.
MATH
If you do not have the appropriate math curricullum course or math placement test before enrolling in CFCC, you must take the numerical or arithmetic and the algebra placement tests. If you qualify for MAT 060 - Essential Mathematics, you must complete the course with a grade of "C" or better before you may enroll in a higher level math course.

English and Math Foundation Courses by Mr. Patrick Pittman, Director of Career and Testing Services
Students are often placed in the English and Math Foundation classes according to their placement test scores. Registration is not handled through the normal registration process. Students are registered in the class by the instructor. These courses do not count for curriculum enrollment but will help satisfy hourly requirements for insurance and other benefits purposes.
English Foundations: Registration is held every Monday and Wednesday at 6:00 PM, room A404. (Call 362-7179 for more information)
Math Foundations (MAT 050): Registration is held every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00 PM, room S409. (Call 362-7179 for more information)
Classes meet for 9 weeks and then take a break. Please remember that you may register any night that the class meets. The meeting schedule for next year's classes is as follows:
Foundation Classes
2010 SUMMER
May 19 - July 22 (no classes May 31, June 1, July 5, and 6)
2010 FALL

Students may register any night that the class meets.
NOTE: If your program of study is not math-intensive and MAT 140- Survey of Mathematics is an option, you may take MAT 140; this course does not prepare you for a higher level math course. If you elect to take MAT 140, you must take the correresponding lab, MAT 140A. The lab section should correspond with the lecture section. Example: MAT 140 and MAT 140A, Section 04. Reminder: MAT 140 is not listed in every college transfer program.
