Wilmington Art Association donates $1,000 for student scholarships

April 1st, 2015 by Sonya Johnson

The Wilmington Art Association recently donated $1,000 to the Cape Fear Community College Foundation for student scholarships. The donation will fund two $500 scholarships for students who are taking art classes or are interested in pursuing art as a career, and have at least a 3.0 GPA.

Liz Hosier and Gale Smith, Presidents of the 250 member Wilmington Art Association, presented the check to the Cape Fear Community College Foundation.

”The Wilmington Art Association is pleased to support young artists in the area so that they may pursue their career goals and focus on their craft.  Art supplies can be expensive, so it is especially important to us to support those who are not able to afford materials,” said Hosier, Co-President.

Dana McKoy, Director of Annual Giving at CFCC, agrees that the Wilmington Art Association scholarships will help students acquire the tools they need to be successful. “We appreciate the Wilmington Art Association’s dedication to art students at CFCC. Art students have added expenses beyond traditional textbooks, so these scholarships are really helpful.”

The Wilmington Art Association created their CFCC scholarship in 2011, supporting its goal to contribute to the local art community and encourage an appreciation of visual arts.
