Engineers are often naturally curious. This curiosity helps them work to solve complex problems. A builder and a designer of machines, systems, and structures, an engineer is concerned with how and why things work and will apply the math and science principles to help understand the natural world. <\/div>

An engineer asks these questions: What problem needs to be solved? Who needs the problem solved? Why is the problem important to solve?<\/p>\n

According to the National Academy of Engineering <\/a> , engineering is \u201cthe application of science because engineers take abstract ideas and build tangible products from them \u2026 a design under constraint because to \u2018engineer\u2019 a product means to construct it in such a way that it will do exactly what you want it to, without any unexpected consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n

CFCC’s Associate in Engineering Curriculum<\/h4>\n

The Associate in Engineering AE (A10500) degree <\/a> shall be granted for a planned program of study consisting of a minimum of 60 semester hours of credit (SHC) of courses. Within the degree program, the institution shall include opportunities for the achievement of competence in reading, writing, oral communication, fundamental mathematical skills, and basic computer use.<\/p>\n

The degree plan includes required general education and prerequisite courses that are acceptable to all state-funded Bachelor of Engineering programs. Students who follow the degree progression plan will meet the entrance requirements at all of the North Carolina public Bachelor of Science Engineering programs. Associate in Engineering graduates may then apply to any of these programs without taking additional and sometimes duplicative courses. Admission to Engineering programs is highly competitive and admission is not guaranteed.<\/p>\n

To be eligible for the transfer of credits under the AE to the Bachelor of Science in Engineering Articulation Agreement, community college graduates must obtain a grade of \u201cC\u201d or better in each course and an overall GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.<\/p>\n
