THEFT ON CAMPUS

The #1 crime on the CFCC campus is theft of personal and state property. The majority of thefts that occur on campus are “thefts of opportunity”.

  • Do not leave personal belongings unattended
  • Do not trust strangers to watch your personal belongings
  • Record the make, model, and serial numbers for electronics

WALKING AT NIGHT

  • Avoid walking alone at night
  • Utilize Campus Safety Office escorts
  • Avoid dark and remote areas
  • Avoid distractions such as texting or listening to music
  • Take your cell phone with you
  • Be familiar with your surroundings and landmarks on campus
  • Keep your hands free from bulky items
  • Report any suspicious activity

VEHICLE SAFETY

  • Park in well-lit areas
  • Lock all doors and roll up windows
  • Activate car alarms and use any anti-theft devices
  • Walk to car with keys in hand
  • Do not store valuables in car or keep them out of plain sight
  • Do not store car title papers inside car

TRAFFIC SAFETY

  • Use cross walks
  • Proceed with caution through all parking decks
  • Obey all traffic laws

BICYCLE SAFETY

  • Use designated bike racks only
  • No bikes are allowed in any College buildings
  • Do NOT secure bikes in handicapped walkway areas

Emergency Blue Phones located around the campuses are answered by New Hanover County 911. Report suspicious activities immediately to the Campus Safety Office. File a police report if you are the victim of a crime.
