Students are welcome to <a href=\"https:\/\/cfcc.edu\/counseling\/contact-us\/\"> schedule an appointment <\/a> with a Counselor to go over options.<\/p>\n<p>*<em>Faculty\/Staff can also refer students to Counseling Services by using Watermark and posting an alert to Counseling.<\/em><\/p> <div class=\"text-larger mb-4\"> Did you know that current students are eligible for appointments with a\u00a0<span class=\"il\">Coastal<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"il\">Horizons<\/span>\u00a0therapist on campus for free? <\/div> <p>Cape Fear Community College, in collaboration with Coastal Horizons, offers FREE mental health counseling services to current students. A CFCC counselor will assist students by conducting an initial assessment and scheduling an appointment with the clinical therapist as needed.<!--Cape Fear Community College, in collaboration with Coastal Horizons, offers FREE on-campus mental health services to all students. Coastal Horizons will have a clinical mental health therapist on the CFCC downtown campus Monday, and Thursday from 9:00 am -5:00 pm. The CFCC counselors will assist students by making a referral and scheduling an appointment with the clinical therapist.\n\nThe therapist will assist students with mental health and personal concerns such as:\n\n\n<ul>\n \t\n\n<li>Family Conflict<\/li>\n\n\n \t\n\n<li>Relationship Issues<\/li>\n\n\n \t\n\n<li>Grief and Loss<\/li>\n\n\n \t\n\n<li>Alcohol or Drug Use<\/li>\n\n\n \t\n\n<li>Stress, Anxiety, or Depression<\/li>\n\n\n \t\n\n<li>Mental Health<\/li>\n\n\n \t\n\n<li>Domestic Violence\/Sexual Assault<\/li>\n\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n-->\n<p>The therapist will help determine if the student would benefit from brief intervention sessions or if they would best be served by a long-term services referral.<\/p>\n<p>Appointments are available Mondays and Thursdays during the fall semester. She provides up to 6 free Solution-Focused Brief Therapy sessions for enrolled CFCC students, supporting them as they navigate personal, academic, and emotional challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Karimah has been a counselor with Coastal Horizons Center for four years, where she works with individuals struggling with addiction, mental health, and life transitions. She is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS). Through her experience, Karimah has worked with adult populations with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, codependency, anxiety and mood disorders, behavioral problems, relationship conflicts, domestic violence and abuse, developmental disabilities, vocational difficulties, severe and persistent mental illness, and personality disorders. Karimah also has 5+ years experience working with low-income families with children and adolescents with intellectual disabilities, special education, and behavioral disorders.<\/p>\n<p>Because each individual is unique, Karimah believes in providing different methods of therapy depending on the individual needs of the client. The various theoretical approaches used stem from humanistic and behavioral therapies. More specifically, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. Karimah is passionate about creating a safe space and empowering space where students can build resilience, strengthen their coping skills, and thrive.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of her work, Karimah enjoys dance, singing, and serving in her community.
