The Cape Fear Community College Foundation recently received a $3,000 donation from the organizers of the Southport Wooden Boat Show to fund an annual scholarship for students in CFCC’s Wooden Boat Building program.

The scholarship is funded from the proceeds of the group’s annual boat show, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2019. The show is held annually at Southport’s historic Old Yacht Basin. The event showcases a variety of traditional wooden boat constructions.

The Southport Wooden Boat Show has supported Cape Fear Community College students since the scholarship’s establishment in 2014. To date, the group has donated $15,000.

“The Southport Wooden Boat Show donation has benefitted so many of our boat building students over the years, and we are again very fortunate to receive this generous donation,” said Mark Council, CFCC Dean of Career and Technical Education. “Investments like this go a long way. We look forward to seeing our students get into the boat building industry and do great things.”
