\"KiwanisThis year marks the Kiwanis Club of Wilmington\u2019s 100 th year anniversary. On this very special year, the Kiwanis Club of Wilmington, via Zoom call, donated a record $4,000 \u2013 more than any previous year \u2013 to support student scholarships at Cape Fear Community College. The Kiwanis Club of Wilmington has supported the Cape Fear Community College Foundation since 1997. The Kiwanis Club of Wilmington has invested $1,328,693 in community institutions since its inception.<\/p>\n

The Kiwanis Club of Wilmington Scholarship is available to students in any program of study, so long as they have a 2.0 GPA and are willing to attend a Kiwanis Club function. Recipients receive $1,000 toward their education and training at CFCC. Students benefiting from the generosity of the Kiwanis Club of Wilmington\u2019s generosity last year are Morgan Piper, Cora Maynard, and Christina Whaley.<\/p>

The additional support is especially needed this year, with so many in our community taking a hard hit from the coronavirus pandemic. Fortunately, many CFCC spring-enrolled students received emergency financial assistance from the CARES Act. Unfortunately, newly enrolled students in the fall will not be eligible for this critical financial support. Scholarships at CFCC are now more important than ever.<\/p>\n

Randy Peebles, Kiwanis Club Scholarships Committee Chair, was the Kiwanis Club President in 1997, when Kiwanis decided to begin giving to the CFCC Foundation. \u201cSince 1997, our Club has contributed an annual amount to the CFCC Foundation to provide a financial support to a worthy in-coming freshman and a second-year students,\u201d Peebles said. \u201cOver the past 23 years, our Club has contributed $43,467 to the Foundation and provided support to 40 students.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Cape Fear Community College Foundation is honored and humbled to receive this donation from Kiwanis Club of Wilmington. \u201cThe Kiwanis Club is a faithful supporter of student scholarships!\u201d says Lauren Janney, CFCC Foundation Relations and Scholarships Coordinator. \u201cTheir scholarship truly makes a difference in the lives of our students; sometimes the difference between staying in or dropping out of school. We are so grateful for their continued support. This current gift allows us to assist even more students in an unprecedented time of need.\u201d<\/p>\n
