Fully Belly Project\u2019s gift to CFCC of $10,000 established the Full Belly Project Technology, Innovation, Service and Agriculture (TISA) Scholarship for CFCC Economic and Workforce Development (EWD) students. The scholarship is now available to students in CFCC\u2019s EWD programs who live in Wilmington\u2019s Youth Enrichment Zone (YEZ) and\/or are a participant in or graduate of the Voyage program (formerly known as the Blue Ribbon Commission). This scholarship will reimburse students for registration fees and up to $500 annually in books and supply fees ($250 per semester). CFCC Career Readiness Coordinator, Buc Brownlie proposed the idea of a scholarship to the Board at Full Belly Project, providing the opportunity for a unique and long-lasting way to support the community and honor the legacy of this important community organization.<\/p>\n

CFCC\u2019s Economic and Workforce Development division provides job training and career readiness opportunities for Cape Fear region citizens. With program offerings such as diesel mechanics, truck driver training, welding, and more, CFCC’s EWD division offers over 730 classes to thousands of students annually to assist those looking to improve their lives through education and training. The Full Belly TISA Scholarship will support students in these short-term, high-impact programs, ensuring that more under-supported students are given full access to these life-changing programs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Full Belly Project wanted to leave a lasting legacy of local impact. Fortunately, in working with the CFCC Foundation, we could do that through the TISA scholarship’s creation and initial funding. The empowerment of local communities has been key to the Full Belly mission. We understand just how important continuing education is to building resilient communities with relevant skills in today\u2019s economy. We hope that our longtime supporters, and the community in general, will help to continue this scholarship program in perpetuity through future giving,\u201d says Dr. Lesley Daspit, Board Chair of the Full Belly Project.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Full Belly TISA Scholarship was created with a single $10,000 gift from the Full Belly Project, but with the community’s support, the scholarship can live on forever.
