The Child Advocacy Studies (CAST) certificate program focuses on developing students understanding of the factors that lead to child maltreatment and the existing responses to incidents of child abuse and neglect, so they work more effectively within multiple systems and institutions that respond to these situations.
Program Learning Objectives:
- Recognize child maltreatment.
- Identify existing prevention/intervention systems and supports.
- Develop effective multidisciplinary responses.
- Foster resilience for a long-term career.
- Establish better outcomes for at-risk or maltreated children.
Program Overview:
A CAST certificate can be paired with any related academic major (e.g. Human Services, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, Medicine, Law) to prepare the student for the real-world intersection of the two disciplines.

- CAS 110 – Perspectives on Child Maltreatment and Advocacy
- CAS 120 – Cultural Awareness in Child Maltreatment and Advocacy
- CAS 210 – Professional & Systems Responses to Child Maltreatment
- CAS 220 – Responding to the Survivor of Child Abuse
