The Addiction and Recovery program will train graduates, through individual or group therapy, to provide support, education, and guidance to people suffering from drug, alcohol, or other addictions. <\/div> <p>The primary objective of the Social &#038; Human Services Addiction and Recovery program is the development of competent human services professionals. The Human Services Technology Addiction and Recovery concentration prepares students to assist in drug and alcohol counseling, prevention-oriented educational activities, rehabilitation with recovering clients, managing community-based programs, counseling in residential facilities, and pursuit of four-year degrees.<\/p>\n<p>Coursework includes classroom and experiential activities oriented toward an overview of chemical dependency, psychological\/sociological process, the twelve Core Functions, intervention techniques with individuals in groups, and follow-up activities with recovering clients.<\/p>\n<p>Graduates should qualify for positions as substance abuse counselors, DUI counselors, halfway house workers, residential facility employees, and substance education specialists. With educational and clinical experiences, graduates can obtain certification from the North Carolina Substance Abuse Board.<\/p>\n<h4>Admissions Process<\/h4>\n<p>Please Note: This program is not selective admission, however, due to the professional scope of practice\/state certification you are pursuing, we require that students complete the below self-assessment which will be sent directly to the Program Director. Peer educators will be available for presentation on campus to other students\u2019 groups.The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.starnewsonline.com\/story\/news\/2021\/10\/11\/cfccs-human-services-technology-program-awarded-grant\/6051585001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Catalyst Bystander Program <\/a> was developed for the purpose of increasing students\u2019 sense of responsibility to intervene in issues of sexual violence on campus and providing the skills to do so. This program was enhanced to include the issues of substance use and mental health. The goal of the Catalyst Bystander Program is to assist colleges and universities in developing a campus community where students support one another by creating a culture of care and balance.
