Disability Support Services (DSS) include, but are not limited the following:
- Academic and Career Counseling
DSS staff provide counseling and/or information on available resources to students with disabilities in order to assist them in achieving their academic and career goals. Students are encouraged to meet with a DSS staff member when issues arise.
- Accommodations for Class Requirements
The DSS office is charged with reviewing disability documentation and approving accommodations based on that documentation. Some possible accommodations that may be approved include, but are not limited to the following:
- Coordination of Services
DSS staff work with students who are new to the college environment, those who are in their final semester, and everyone in between. Services that are approved are discussed at length with students and assistance is provided in coordinating those services.
- Student Advocacy
Students are encouraged to meet with a DSS staff member when issues arise. Staff will discuss possible strategies for the student to handle certain situations on their own, however, may at times assist students in resolving issues.
- Transition Services
DSS staff assist students in their transition from secondary school and help them navigate this new environment. Assistance can also be provided when current students decide to transition to another higher education institution.
Contact a DSS Staff Member for additional information on these services.
