Business and Industry Services

The Center for Business, Industry, and Government offers seminars and customized industry training for individuals and businesses in New Hanover and Pender counties. To request industry training or receive information on course offerings, call 910-362-7170.

Small Business Center (SBC)

The Small Business Center is located at the Business Industry and Government (BIG) Center, 805 N. 3rd St. in Wilmington.  As one of fifty-eight member colleges in the Small Business Center Network, the SBC strives to increase the number and the success rate of small businesses in New Hanover and Pender Counties.  It provides classes and counseling for prospective and existing small business owners.

Services include:

  • Training – seminars, workshops and mini-courses on business management skills.
  • Information – A resource center for SBA publications, pamphlets, books and videos on small business topics.
  • Consulting and Referral – One-on-one confidential counseling with business management consultants.

Additionally, the SBC is the Regional Export Center for the EXPORT OUTREACH PROGRAM, a workshop covering the essentials of the export process. The course is designed as a refresher for current export staffers or to bring those new to exporting up to speed.

Customized Training Program

The Customized Training Program provides training for industry at Cape Fear Community College as well as on-site at your business. Topics vary widely according to industry need and can be customized. Examples of industry offerings include: technical training, basic computer and software program skills, oral and written communication skills, management, supervision, quality standards, IS0 9000, customer service, and team-building.  Call 362-7909 for more information on how to partner with CFCC to ensure your employees have the most up-to-date training.

Training in job analysis and employee assessment are also offered. These provide information important to forming accurate job descriptions and to determining employee traits related to success in particular jobs within a business. To discuss a special industry need, call 910-362-7909.

Occupational Extension

Single courses designed to:

  • Train individuals for employment
  • Upgrade the skills of those presently employed
  • Retrain for employment in new occupational fields.

Career Readiness Certification  (CRC)

The Career Readiness Certification is a State and National credential that is the centerpiece of a comprehensive system that helps individuals gain the skills businesses need to build a competitive/competent workforce.  It verifies core employability skills that are valuable across all businesses and industries.  The credential offers individuals, employers, and educators a standardized approach to recognizing the universal value of these skills to job success.  For more information on how to obtain a CRC or how to use it in your organization, call (910) 362-7050.
