CFCC’s Burgaw Center expands industry training with new carpentry course

Burgaw CenterWilmington, NC — To support the growing demand for skilled trades in Pender County, Cape Fear Community College’s (CFCC) Burgaw Center is expanding its focus on industry trades by launching a Beginning Carpentry and Woodworking class. This course, designed to prepare students for careers in construction, will run from April 1 to July 24, 2025. Students will receive hands-on training in fundamental carpentry skills.

Participants will learn basic safety procedures, tool identification and usage, construction mathematics, and techniques for framing walls, partitions, roofs, doors, and windows. Additional topics include foundation layout and flooring system construction. Students will engage in hands-on construction projects to reinforce learning, applying their skills in real-world scenarios.

Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The total cost for enrollment is $190. The class is open to any student age 16 and older (students under the age of 18 will require parental consent for participation).
