This course is designed to teach theory of celestial bodies. This course prepares individuals in technique for finding one's position at sea using sextant observations of heavenly bodies. Course work includes preliminary consideration of the movements of the navigational starts, planets, moon, and sun. Students will receive instruction on the theory and use of a sextant. The sight information is then converted to charted position with the use of The Nautical Almanac and special sight reduction tables.
