What is Academic Advising?

What is Academic Advising?

Academic advising is a process in which students seek and receive guidance with academic program planning and course selection from an assigned advisor.  It is the responsibility of the student to seek advising assistance.

Advisors help you:

  • Explore  and define your educational and career goals
  • Assess your interests and abilities
  • Select courses required to complete your degree or needed to transfer to a 4-year college or university
  • Understand college policies and procedures
  • Make use of CFCC resources

How to make the most out of Academic Advising:

  • Check your CFCC email account regularly.
  • See your Academic Advisor during the Pre-Registration Advising period.
  • Review your program of study and think about which classes you would like to take prior to your meeting.
  • Become familiar with the academic policies and procedures outlined in the College Catalog.
  • Research 4-year colleges and universities that you may be interested in transferring to early in your enrollment at CFCC so you can consider their requirements when selecting courses.

  • Seek assistance as soon as a problem arises.  Do not wait!
