CFCC Department of Fine and Performing Arts presents Blue Stockings
Wilmington, NC – The Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) Department of Fine and Performing Arts is proud to present its latest production, Blue Stockings. The play is directed by Kate Briante, CFCC Drama Instructor, and features the talents of many CFCC students, faculty, and staff both in the play and behind the scenes.
Over the last two weekends in April, the community is invited to take a step back in time to 1896 Cambridge, England. In Jessica Swale’s debut play, Blue Stockings, Tess Moffat and her fellow first years are determined to win the right to graduate. The play is a moving, comical, and eye-opening story of four young women fighting for education and self-determination against the larger backdrop of women’s suffrage.
The show will be presented in the Wilson Center Studio Theater (703 N. 3rd Street, Wilmington, NC) at 7:00 p.m. each evening. The show will be offered on the following dates:
- Thursday, April 20
- Friday, April 21
- Saturday, April 22
- Thursday, April 27
- Friday, April 28
- Saturday, April 29
“Rehearsing for Blue Stockings has benefited me in so many ways,” said Lily Brown, CFCC Student and actor in the play. “I have learned more in-depth about this era of time and understand what it meant to be a woman in the 1800s. Working with our director, Kate Briante, and our entire cast has been a fulfilling and wonderful experience. I look forward to illuminating an important piece of women’s history.”
Tickets can be purchased at www.wilsoncentertickets.com . Admission is $5 for children and students, $12 for CFCC faculty and staff, and $15 for adults.
