CFCC Electrical Lineworker program graduates class of 46, with 40% hailing from out-of-state
Wilmington, NC – Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) is proud to announce the successful graduation of forty-six students from the Electrical Lineworker program. This group of graduates demonstrates a significant milestone for CFCC’s program, with 40% coming from out-of-state. The graduation ceremony was held on September 13, 2023, at CFCC’s North Campus in Castle Hayne.
This graduating class stands out for its exceptional diversity, with students coming from various regions, both within the state and beyond. In addition to North Carolina, states represented by the graduates include California (3), Colorado, Florida, Georgia (3), Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia.
“I chose the CFCC Electrical Lineworker program because it has so many great things going for it,” said Bob Beers, a September 2023 graduate from Vermont. “The program has great instructors, great reviews, and you earn your Class A Commercial Driver’s License, which is very rare for this kind of program, all in just 10 weeks.”
Immediately following the Electrical Lineworker graduation, graduates participate in on-site interviews with local employers. Employers who will be in attendance include but are not limited to, Pike Electric, River City Construction, Mastec, Duke Energy, Brunswick EMC, Utility Lines Construction Service (ULCS), Sumter Utilities, and ATX. Most graduates are offered jobs on the spot and leave graduation with a certification of completion and at least one full-time job offer.
“We appreciate our relationship with Cape Fear Community College and the quality students the lineworker program produces,” said Mitchell Hady, Vice President of Human Resources for Pike Electric. “We find that, upon graduation, students are prepared to begin a career in our industry. We look forward to continuing to meet future graduates who will help provide the talent we need to service our communities.”
The Electrical Lineworker Program is a 10-week course designed to prepare students with the skills and knowledge needed to have a successful career as an electrical lineworker. The program instructs students in setting and climbing poles; installing cross arms, hardware, lines, and transformers; using tools and equipment of the trade through field experience; overhead and underground construction practices; electrical theory and practice; safety and teamwork; and commercial driving.
