CFCC men’s basketball player receives Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame Scholarship
Wilmington, NC – Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) Athletics is delighted to announce that basketball student-athlete Avion Pinner has been awarded an athletics scholarship from the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame (GWSHOF) at the 2024 Hall of Fame Induction Banquet on May 19. This milestone marks the first time a CFCC student has received a scholarship from GWSHOF in its 19-year history of recognizing athletic excellence in the greater Wilmington area.
Avion Pinner, a rising sophomore, plays forward and started for the Sea Devils in 23 out of 26 games during the 2023-2024 season. He averaged 9.5 points per game and was a standout rebounder, securing 146 rebounds last season. Avion, who received the 2024 CFCC Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Year award, is well-known among his teammates for always being there to support the team.
“There is no one more deserving of this award than Avion,” said Mark Lane, CFCC Men’s Basketball Coach. “Avion has really grown this past year, both as a player and academically. He has a very bright future ahead of him.”
“I am immensely proud to celebrate Avion’s outstanding achievement,” said Jim Morton, CFCC President. “This prestigious recognition not only highlights his individual accomplishments but also reflects the excellence of our athletic program. We congratulate him on this well-deserved honor.”
