CFCC celebrates outstanding achievements at National Cyber League Spring 2024 Cybersecurity Competition

Cyber Crime TechnologyWilmington, NC – Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) is excited to announce its outstanding performance in the National Cyber League (NCL) Spring 2024 Cybersecurity Competition. CFCC secured an impressive 163rd place out of approximately 5,000 teams in the competition. In the individual competition, student Hunter Korff achieved remarkable success, placing in the top 500 out of nearly 10,000 participants and earning a prestigious trophy.

Competing separately, CFCC Cybersecurity Instructor Derrick Shaw placed in the top 1% in individual and team competitions, earning him a $10,000 scholarship. A Harvard University graduate, Shaw learned from pioneers in the industry, fueling his passion for education. He plans to use the scholarship to pay for a course in his master’s program at the SANS Technology Institute.

“I wanted to participate in the competition to show my students that I practice what I teach,” said Shaw. “Cybersecurity is a broad and challenging field, and I want the students who look to me for mentorship to know that I stand on years of experience and thousands of hours of practice.”
