CFCC receives grant to purchase state-of-the-art equipment for new dental clinic

Dental Hygiene StudentWilmington, NC – Cape Fear Community College is the proud recipient of a $150,000 grant from the Cape Fear Memorial Foundation to expand the dental clinic. The grant will fund the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment, including X-ray machines, radiography scanners, Carina sensors, and mannequins.

CFCC’s dental clinic supports the community by offering high-quality, low-cost dental care to those in need. In 2023, the clinic treated 620 local patients, delivering $398,319 in services. This commitment ensures that essential dental care remains accessible and affordable for residents, contributing to the overall health and well-being of the community and help CFCC students to gain essential skills in a real-world setting.

CFCC is currently working on a new setting for its dental clinic. Construction is underway in the Dan and Sheila Saklad Health and Human Services Center, and is expected to open in Fall 2025. The new equipment provided by this grant will help dental assisting and hygiene program students train with industry-standard tools in their new space.

CFCC President Jim Morton expresses his gratitude for the support of the Cape Fear Memorial Foundation.

“This generous grant allows us to provide high-quality training for our dental students, ensuring they are fully equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in their careers. The impact of this investment will be felt by our students and the entire Cape Fear region as we train the next generation of dental professionals and provide an affordable, quality dental service to the community.”

The Cape Fear Memorial Foundation is a private, non-operating foundation in Wilmington. Its primary purpose is to serve the health and medical needs of the people of Southeastern North Carolina. It supports not-for-profit organizations providing health and medical services and health education.
