CFCC to Launch Flooring Installation Course at Surf City Center to Meet Regional Workforce Demand

Wilmington, NC (January 28, 2026) – Cape Fear Community College is launching a new Flooring Installation course beginning March 2, 2026, at the Surf City location . This new course addresses a critical workforce shortage in the growing floor-covering industry across southeastern North Carolina.
Over the past decade, the Southeast has experienced a decline of approximately 4,000 to 6,000 flooring installers, even as residential and commercial development continues to expand in Pender and New Hanover counties. To help close this gap, CFCC is partnering with the Floor Covering Education Foundation to provide hands-on training that prepares students for in-demand careers in flooring installation.
The 300-hour program will focus on installing hardwood, carpet, tile, and luxury vinyl plank, equipping students with the technical skills needed to enter the workforce immediately upon completion. Graduates will be prepared for careers in the floor-covering industry, where median annual salaries for carpet installers range from $50,000 to $70,000.
Classes begin March 2, 2026. Enrollment is limited to 10 students. The cost of the course is $215. For more information and to register for the Flooring Installation course, visit cfcc-register.fundfive.com/filtered/course/Flooring .
