Wilma W. Daniels Gallery Presents In the Making: A High School Art Exhibition

Wilmington, NC (June 8, 2026) – Cape Fear Community College’s Wilma W. Daniels Gallery is proud to present In the Making: A High School Art Exhibition, opening Tuesday, June 23. The exhibition features artwork by talented student artists from public high schools across New Hanover and Pender counties and celebrates the creativity, growth, and artistic achievement of the next generation of visual artists.
The exhibition showcases a wide range of media including ceramics, sculpture, photography, drawing, and painting. Through these works, students demonstrate not only technical skill and artistic discipline, but also the persistence, experimentation, and imagination required to create meaningful visual arts.
“The works presented in In the Making reflect the act of learning through making,” said Skye Dlugy-Hegwer, CFCC Visual Art Studio Technician. “Each piece highlights students’ willingness to explore ideas, challenge perspectives, and communicate through visual form. The exhibition offers insight into the evolving voices of these young artists and celebrates the importance of arts education in fostering creativity and critical thinking.”
From cultural references to imagined environments, the featured works reveal thoughtful engagement with the world around them. More than a presentation of finished artworks, In the Making honors the passion and determination of students who continue to push the boundaries of their abilities and imagination.
A Fourth Friday reception will be held on Friday, June 26, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Wilma W. Daniels Gallery. The event is free and open to the public.
