CFCC Expands Aviation Program with New Facility at ILM

Wilmington, NC (August 14, 2026) — Cape Fear Community College has signed a lease for a 3,700-square-foot facility at Wilmington International Airport to expand its Aviation Maintenance Technician program. The dedicated repair facility provides room for growth and positions CFCC to seek Federal Aviation Administration approval.

By establishing a dedicated site at ILM, CFCC will expand its curriculum to include Airframe & Powerplant training, which prepares technicians to inspect, troubleshoot, and inspect planes and engines to meet FAA certification standards. This addition completes a comprehensive training pathway for students pursuing careers as certified aviation maintenance technicians.

That kind of hands-on experience is invaluable and prepares our graduates to step confidently into careers in the aviation industry.”

At the new facility, students will gain practical experience in:

• Structures & Fabrication: Sheet metal, composites, and fabric repairs.
• Mechanical Systems: Hydraulics, landing gear, flight controls, and rigging.
• Electrical & Avionics: AC/DC circuits, instrumentation, and troubleshooting.
• Specialized Systems: Environmental, fire detection, and ice/rain protection systems.
• Regulations & Safety: FAA standards and aircraft inspection techniques.

Additionally, CFCC launches its new Associate in Applied Science in Aviation Management & Career Pilot Technology at the North Campus this fall, offering flexible day, evening, and hybrid classes.
