CFCC Outpaces State and National Trends with Record Enrollment Growth

Wilmington, NC (August 26, 2026) – As demand for practical, affordable higher education surges across the country, Cape Fear Community College is leading the way in North Carolina. According to newly released data from the N.C. Community College System dashboard, CFCC ranked #1 in full-time enrollment growth from the 2025 to 2026 academic year.

While North Carolina community colleges grew by an average of 6% during this period, CFCC tripled that benchmark with an impressive 18% increase in full-time enrollment hours.

Key highlights from the latest enrollment data include:

  • Massive Year-Over-Year Gains: Total student enrollment rose by more than 3,400 students—a overall growth rate exceeding 14%
  • Outpacing the Nation: CFCC’s one-year growth was nearly five times the national community college average of roughly 3% reported by the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center
  • Historic Milestones: Total student attendance at CFCC has now crossed 27,000 students
