CFCC Learning Lab awarded ICLCA Learning Center Certification

Wilmington, NC (October 1, 2026) – The Cape Fear Community College Learning Lab continues to lead the way as an outstanding tutoring center by officially earning Learning Center Certification from the International College Learning Center Association (ICLCA) for 2026–2028. CFCC is the only college in North Carolina to hold this certification.
This national certification verifies that the CFCC Learning Lab meets rigorous professional standards for academic support services, staffing, operations, program assessment, and student success initiatives.
“Earning this national recognition validates the dedication of our team and the impact our Learning Lab has on student achievement,” said Kayla Page, Director of Academic Support Services at CFCC. “Our goal is to ensure every student has access to high-quality academic support, whether they are meeting with a tutor on campus or using our resources online in the middle of the night.”
During the review process, evaluators specifically praised the Learning Lab’s accessibility, student support services, and its learning environment. Reviewers highlighted CFCC’s strategic use of data to guide staffing, technology use, and funding allocation, demonstrating that college resources are being used strategically and effectively. Additionally, the college received high marks for comprehensive staff training that goes well beyond tutoring techniques to cover critical areas such as FERPA, Title VII, Title IX, bullying prevention and Mental Health First Aid.
By setting nationwide standards, the ICLCA encourages higher education institutions to maintain high-quality learning environments that elevate student outcomes, a benchmark the Cape Fear Community College Learning Lab continues to meet and exceed.
“Student success is at the heart of everything we do,” said CFCC President Jim Morton. “This national recognition underscores our dedication to providing resources that help students succeed.”
The CFCC Learning Lab supports students by offering 24/7 online tutoring alongside face-to-face assistance in mathematics, science, writing, and Film/Video Production. For the 2025/2026 school year, more than 2,300 CFCC students logged approximately 21,300 hours of tutoring. CFCC Learning Labs are located in the libraries at Downtown and North Campus.
