CFCC Conducting Scheduled Explosives Training at North Campus

Wilmington, NC (October 8, 2026) – Cape Fear Community College is notifying residents near its North Campus that loud explosions may be heard Saturday, October 10, and Sunday, October 11, as part of scheduled public safety training.

CFCC’s Public Safety College will conduct its Explosives, Bombing and Terrorism course, led by CFCC instructors with ATF backgrounds and attended by public safety professionals.

Controlled training explosives will be detonated behind the Safety Training Center (NC Building) and the sound may be noticeable in surrounding areas.

The class runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. Weather permitting, detonations are expected after 3 p.m. Saturday and between 10 a.m. and noon Sunday.

The detonations are part of a planned, controlled training exercise and are not associated with an emergency or public safety threat.
