Wilmington, NC (October 19, 2026) – Cape Fear Community College has been nominated for Topsail’s Top Choice 2026 People’s Choice Awards in the Favorite Educational Service category, recognizing the college’s commitment to providing accessible education and workforce training opportunities throughout the region.

The nomination comes during a year of significant growth for CFCC’s Alton W. Burke Center at Surf City, which serves approximately 600 students each spring and fall semester. In April 2026, CFCC opened a 10,500-square-foot addition, doubling the facility’s size and expanding access to university transfer courses, workforce training, and community education.

The expanded campus features new science and workforce development labs, allowing students to complete courses such as General Biology and Anatomy and Physiology closer to home. Students can also pursue hands-on training and industry credentials in high-demand fields, including HVAC and marine engine technology.

Since opening in 2015, the Surf City campus has become an important educational resource for Pender County and surrounding communities, serving traditional college students, high school students, adult learners, veterans, and military families.

Voting ends October 31. To vote for CFCC in the Favorite Education Service category visit https://www.topsailstopchoice.com/category/15033/favorite-educational-service
