Trong Ho Transfers to Yale University

After transferring from Cape Fear Community College to Yale University, Trong Ho has continued exploring his interests in computing and linguistics while getting involved in campus life. From managing an award-winning a cappella group to studying abroad in Amsterdam, he’s making the most of his time at Yale. We caught up with Trong to hear more about his experiences since transferring and how CFCC helped prepare him for the next step.
What activities, opportunities, or accomplishments are you most proud of since transferring?

Since transferring to Yale, I’ve had the opportunity to join Yale Out of the Blue, an award-winning co-ed a cappella group, where I currently serve as a Business Manager. Through this role, I’ve gotten to develop my leadership and organizational skills by helping manage the group, coordinate performances and events, and handle the logistics that go on behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly.
It’s been a rewarding experience to contribute to the group in ways beyond performing and to learn how to work with others to make things happen. This winter, I will also be serving as a Tour Manager for our upcoming North Carolina tour, which I am especially excited about because we will be performing in Wilmington!
I’ve also had the chance to study abroad in Amsterdam this past summer, which was an amazing opportunity to experience new cultures and travel throughout Europe.
Academically, I’m continuing my studies in Computing and Linguistics at Yale and exploring how my interests in math, language, and technology intersect.
How did your time at CFCC help prepare you for this next step?
My time at CFCC played a huge role in helping me prepare for this next step. As a transfer student, CFCC gave me the opportunity to build a strong academic foundation, explore my interests, and grow more confident in my ability to succeed at a four-year university. The smaller classes and support from faculty helped me develop the skills and confidence I needed to take on new challenges.
I hope sharing my experience can encourage other CFCC students to explore the opportunities available to them and feel confident pursuing their own paths!
