Biotechnology: Bioprocess Manufacturing
Help Create the Future of Medicine
Do you want a career where you can make a tangible difference in global health? If you are interested in how life-saving medicines and vaccines are made, the biomanufacturing industry is your perfect fit.
At Cape Fear Community College, the Bioprocess Manufacturing track is a specialized concentration under our Associate of Applied Science in Biotechnology (A20100) degree. This program is specifically designed to prepare you for roles as process operators in pharmaceutical and biological manufacturing environments. No previous science background is required to begin your journey into this high-tech field.
What You Will Learn
Most of your coursework is hands-on, providing real-world experience in the same environments used by top biopharma companies. You will develop expert knowledge in:
- Upstream and Downstream Manufacturing: Fermentation, cell culturing, and protein purification.
- Compliance & Safety: Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and laboratory safety.
- Scientific Principles: Microbiology, chromatography, and biologic synthesis.
- Quality Control: Product inspection, assaying, and testing to ensure medical safety.
The BioWork Advantage
Have you already completed the BioWork certificate course at CFCC? This short-term training develops the fundamental skills required for entry-level process technician positions. Good news: Your BioWork certificate can be applied directly toward your Associate of Applied Science in Biotechnology degree.
