Career Exploration Summer Camps Offered at CFCC’s Surf City and Burgaw Locations

Wilmington, NC (June 11, 2025) – Cape Fear Community College is excited to announce an engaging lineup of career exploration summer camps for teens at the Burgaw and Surf City locations. These camps offer unique opportunities for students to explore their interests, develop new skills, and experience hands-on learning. All camps are for students ages 12 and up.

Burgaw

• Public Safety
  Dates: 7/15-7/29 (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.)
  Price: $170
  Explore careers in public safety with a focus on fire/forestry, EMS/rescue, law enforcement, dispatch, and forensics. Learn key terms, communication skills, and career paths through hands-on activities and expert guest speakers. Highlights include a mock wreck simulation and daily visits from professionals.

• Automotive Restoration
  Dates: 6/24-7/15 (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)
  Price: $170
  Explore a career in automotive restoration. Participants will learn safety, tools, and techniques including spot welding, metal selection, and body/frame construction. Long pants, long sleeves, and closed-toe shoes are required. Safety glasses and gloves are provided. Space is limited and filling fast.

• Mechatronic/Robotics
  Dates: 6/24-7/15 (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)
  Price: $170
  Explore a career in building, troubleshooting, and repairing electromechanical systems using simulations and real equipment. Hands-on experience includes tools, multimeters, and control systems. Space is limited and filling fast.

• HVAC
  Dates: 6/23-7/9 (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)
  Price: $170
  Explore a career in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC). Students will learn industry terminology, safety protocols, component identification, and the use of essential tools and instrumentation in mechanical refrigeration.

• Nurse Aid
  Dates: 6/24-7/15 (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)
  Price: $170
  Explore a hands-on healthcare career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Learn terminology, communication, hygiene, PPE, safety, and how to take vitals. Ideal for future nursing students.

Surf City

• Intro to DSLR Photography
  Dates: 6/17-6/19 and 7/10-7/12
  Price: $50
  Learn to make the most of your DSLR camera! Explore essential and advanced features through hands-on activities, discussions, and demos. Discover tips for composing great shots and photographing landscapes, sports, people, and more. Bring your DSLR camera, lenses, manual, memory cards, and accessories.
