CFCC Awarded $250,000 Grant for Electrical System Technology Program

Wilmington, NC (July 1, 2026) –  Cape Fear Community College has been awarded $250,000 through Careers Electric™ to grow CFCC’s Electrical Systems Technology Program. Careers Electric™ is a statewide, performance-driven, education and training investment designed to meet the growing demand for skilled electricians in North Carolina. Supported by the Siemens Foundation, funding will be distributed to the Electrical Systems Technology program over two years.

The grant will fund an additional Electrical Systems Technology instructor position, enabling CFCC to offer night classes in the program, expanding access for working adults looking to make a career change. The college plans to offer evening sections of ELC 112 : DC/AC Electricity and ELC 113 : Residential Wiring at the North Campus in the fall of 2026.

“This grant funding will allow us to remove barriers for students who are ready to pursue a high-demand career in the electrical industry,” said Jim Morton, president of Cape Fear Community College. “By expanding instructional capacity and adding evening course options, we can better serve working adults while helping meet the growing workforce needs of our region.”

CFCC is one of ten North Carolina community colleges selected to participate in Careers Electric™, reflecting the college’s strong reputation for workforce training and commitment to meeting the region’s growing demand for skilled trades professionals. Led by NC Community Colleges Foundation, the NC Community College System, Wake Technical Community College, The Siemens Foundation and industry partners, the Careers Electric™ initiative is working to address North Carolina’s growing demand for skilled electrical professionals. Through this investment, CFCC will help build a stronger regional talent pipeline while preparing students for high-wage, high-growth careers that are critical to North Carolina’s economic future.
