CFCC Launches Adult High School Program at Surf City Campus

AHS graduates

Wilmington, NC (May 27, 2025) – Cape Fear Community College is launching an Adult High School program at the Surf City location beginning this July. Individuals who have not yet completed high school and are ready to take the next step toward earning their diploma can now do so at multiple CFCC locations.

CFCC will host a New Student Orientation for the Adult High School program on June 3, 2025, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Alston W. Burke Center. Prospective students are encouraged to attend and learn more about the program’s flexible and supportive pathway toward high school completion. Attendance at the orientation is required for program participants to register. All students must bring a picture ID with birthdate and signature, social security card, and official transcript from previous high school (if available).

The AHS program is a credit-based curriculum designed specifically for adult learners who wish to earn their high school diploma. There is no cost to attend adult high, making this program an accessible option for those ready to invest in their future.

Classes are offered both in-person at CFCC’s Surf City location and online, providing flexible learning options to meet students’ needs. Both formats begin in July 2025, giving students the freedom to choose the learning environment that works best for them.

Graduates of the program receive an Adult High School Diploma issued jointly by Cape Fear Community College and the New Hanover or Pender County Board of Education. This diploma holds the same value as any public or private high school diploma and is recognized by employers, colleges, and universities across the country.

“By offering the Adult High School Program at our Surf City location, we’re bringing greater access and opportunity directly to the Pender County community,” said Jim Morton, CFCC President. “With both in- person and online options available, we’re making it easier than ever for adult learners to achieve their educational goals and open doors to brighter futures.”
