CFCC Small Business Center generates highest number of business startups

Wilmington, NC – The Small Business Center (SBC) at Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) achieved the highest overall impact in the state for business startups. In FY 2022-2023, the SBC assisted in establishing 43 businesses in New Hanover and Pender Counties. This recognition underscores the center’s commitment to driving economic development, innovation, and job creation within the region.

The CFCC Small Business Center has stood out as a trailblazer in providing comprehensive resources, mentorship, and guidance to aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners. With its dedicated team of experienced professionals and an array of programs, workshops, and networking opportunities, the SBC has enabled hundreds of individuals to transform their business ideas into successful business ventures.

CFCC’s Small Business Center is part of a statewide network designed to support the development and growth of small businesses. The SBC offers a number of free or low-cost services to entrepreneurs and small business owners. Services include:

  • Seminars and workshops to include an annual Small Business Summit.
  • Counseling services on diverse topics, from licensing issues and business plans to marketing and advertising.
  • Information and referral center providing one-stop shopping for information such as website location and telephone number for governmental agencies that can assist small business owners.

For 65 years, Cape Fear Community College has served the citizens of New Hanover and Pender Counties with accessible, high-quality education, workforce training opportunities, and specialized services and support. With more than 22,500 students annually, Cape Fear Community College is the fifth-largest community college in North Carolina and a significant economic development partner in Southeastern NC. The college has four locations: Wilmington, Castle Hayne, Burgaw, and Surf City.
