CFCC to Honor 9/11 Victims and First Responders at Patriot Day Ceremony

Wilmington, NC (August 28, 2026)— Cape Fear Community College will host a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony to honor the victims, survivors, and heroic first responders of September 11, 2001. The memorial will pay tribute to those impacted by the attacks at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and aboard American Airlines Flights 11 and 77, as well as United Airlines Flights 93 and 175.

The ceremony is scheduled for Friday, September 11, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. at the CFCC North Campus Safety Training Center, located at 4500 Blue Clay Road in Castle Hayne.

Dr. Shane Guyant, CFCC Department Chair of Public Safety, will deliver the opening remarks. The program will also feature special reflections from members of the NYCPD 10-13 Club of Wilmington, NC, an organization of retired New York City police officers living in the area.

Key ceremonial traditions will include the laying of a memorial wreath and the ringing of the “Striking of the Four Fives,” a historic firefighter tradition of five bell strikes repeated four times to signal the final roll call for fallen heroes.

The campus community and public are invited to attend and join in remembering the brave individuals and families affected by the events of 9/11.
