CFCC Women’s Basketball to Host Third Annual Carly Rae Classic Tournament

Carly RaeWilmington, NC – The Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) Women’s Basketball is proud to announce the 3rd annual “Carly Rae Classic” tournament to kick off the season. The tournament is named after the late Carly Rae Baron, a beloved student and former CFCC women’s basketball player whose life was cut short. The tournament will occur on Friday, November 3, and Saturday, November 4, at the Joe and Barbara Schwartz Center (610 N. Front Street).

Carly Rae was a dedicated student, avid basketball player, aspiring model, and friend to many. On November 1, 2020, Carly passed away. She was a source of inspiration and positivity for her teammates, with a laugh that could light up an entire room. The Carly Rae Classic tournament was established in 2021 to celebrate her life and love of the game.

The “Carly Rae Classic” brings teams together from across the Carolinas for a weekend of spirited competition, camaraderie, and remembrance. During Saturday games, there will be a memorial tribute to Carly Rae, where her family will be present to share in the commemoration.

The game schedule for the weekend is as follows:

Friday, November 3:

  • Denmark Tech vs. Brunswick Community College (5:00 p.m.)
  • CFCC vs. USC Salkehatchie (7:00 p.m.)

Saturday, November 4:

  • CFCC vs. Denmark Tech (1:00 p.m.)
  • USC Salkehatchie vs. Brunswick Community College (3:00 p.m.)

All games are open to the public. Tickets can be purchased upon arrival with cash or a credit card. Guests under 12 are free. For guests 13 and older, tickets are $15 for a tournament pass (good for all games) or a single-day pass for $10. All CFCC students and employees can attend for free with a valid CFCC ID. Parking is free to game attendees in the CFCC parking lot on Hanover Street and Front Street. Handicap seating accommodations can be made upon request.
