Wilmington, NC (October 28, 2026) – The Cape Fear Community College women’s soccer team is heading to Pensacola, Florida, this week to compete in the 2026 NJCAA Division II South District Women’s Soccer Championship.

The Sea Devils enter the tournament following their sixth consecutive regional championship, secured with a 1-0 victory over Richard Bland College on October 24. The win extended an impressive streak for the women’s team: CFCC has not lost a Region 10 game since October 17, 2022.

Since the program began in 2006, the women’s soccer team has won 16 Regular Season Regional championships and 15 conference tournament titles. Head coach C.W. Ponton has led the team to five consecutive championships since taking over the women’s program.

“What this program has accomplished over the past 20 years is remarkable,” said Ryan Mantlo, CFCC Athletic Director. “An undefeated conference record dating back to 2022 speaks to the consistency and dedication of our coaches and student-athletes. Coach Ponton has done an outstanding job building on that tradition of success.”

“I’m so proud of our team,” Ponton said following Saturday’s victory. “We came out strong and accomplished everything we wanted in the first half. This championship is a testament to the hard work and dedication of every player on this team.”

CFCC will face host Pensacola State College in the South District semifinals on Friday, October 30, at 5 p.m. Eastern. A victory would send the Sea Devils to Saturday’s championship match, putting them one win away from their first national tournament appearance since 2023.
