Donterio Perkins is a native of Bethel, NC, and graduated from North Pitt High School in 2002. He attended NC Wesleyan College where he became a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated in Fall 2003. He earned his BA degree in Justice Studies from NC Wesleyan College in 2007. He has worked for the NC Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention as a Juvenile Court Counselor from December 2007 until April 2010 before transitioning to law enforcement as a Probation/Parole Officer in Pitt County. He relocated to Wilmington, NC in October 2011 where he continued his career in criminal justice and human services. Mr. Perkins served on various task forces including the Drug Treatment Court of New Hanover County. While employed as a Probation Officer, Donterio earned his Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Grand Canyon University in 2017. Due to his dedication to the field, he was awarded the Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from the NC Department of Justice in 2018. He would then transition to higher education in May 2021 where he is currently employed at Cape Fear Community College as the Diversity Success Coordinator and the college’s Chairman of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. He continues to remain active in the community and has served as a two-term president of the Delta Nu Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated. Donterio is married and he is wife (Alexis) has two children; Jaxon (3) and Ava (4 months).
